Productive April Meeting at Dry Dock

It’s not even summer yet, but your HopAholics Homebrew Club is already hot!  Decisions were made at the April 25 monthly meeting that will influence our activities for what will be an active summer brewing season.

For starters, take a look at the new club logo, which was selected from some great choices by members in good standing.  You’ll be seeing this logo in several upcoming event promotions, including our Hatch Chile Beer tapping on Cinco de Mayo (May 5) at Dad & Dudes Breweria, followed by the Big Brew Day on May 6, hosted by Dry Dock Brewery in Aurora. The club will have a major presence at this years’s Parker Brewfest, where members will showcase their brewing skills, as well as at “Art & Ale” at the CU Extension in Centennial in August. Stay tuned for more details on these great local events.

Attendees at this month’s meeting were treated to a presentation by Daisha Barnett from Five Star Chemicals & Supply, Inc.  Most homebrewers are familiar with StarSan and PBW, but it was interesting to learn more about the company’s entire product line, which is geared to professional breweries as well as homebrewers. Daisha shared information about SaniClean (a lower foaming version of StarSan recommended for kegs), IO Star (an iodine sanitizer), SuperMoss (a wort clarifier like Irish Moss or Whirlfloc that can be used in fermentation), 5.2PH Stabilizer (for maintaining a healthy PH balance in your mash), 10% PhosAcid (an alternative for PH adjustment), and (no kidding) BS Remover, a powerful inorganic cleaner that will remove “beer stone” and other nasty things you don’t want on your brewing equipment.  Daisha is happy to assist by providing additional information, so feel free to contact her at Many thanks to Daisha and Five Star for visiting with us at our April meeting.

Finally, the club is partnering with the American Hombrewers Association to offer members of the Parker HopAholics a great opportunity. At the bottom of the home page is a link to the AHA website and an offer that will pay dividends on your investment in the AHA.  Not only will you realize a host of benefits that will more than pay for your AHA membership, but our club will receive a donation for each member that joins. A total win-win. Consider your commitment to homebrewing and then take advantage of this great offer.
