The latest HopAholics brewing collaboration took place on a balmy Saturday, January 6 at FanDraught Sports Brewery in Parker. President Will Trail whipped up a recipe for “FiveRing Pale Ale”, a tribute to the USA Winter Olympic Team. The plans were to have the beer flowing in time for the Opening Ceremony on February 9 in PyeongChang, South Korea, but it looks like it will be tapped a week early – at FanDraught’s new 10 barrel Brew House Grand Opening on Friday, February 2.
Club members turned out to help with the brew day on Cody Baylis’ excellent 15 gallon customized system. The ten gallon batch of FiveRing Pale Ale contained a grain bill of 19 1/2 pounds (Maris Otter and Golden Promise pale malt, a pound each of Homey and Vienna Malts, and eight ounces of Caramel/Crystal 40L. Amarillo, El Dorado and Galaxy hops will lend it some complexity in the boil, and a dry hopping of Citra and Galaxy will finish it off. The brew should finish at 1.013 final gravity, at 5.4% ABV.
Many thanks to our hosts at FanDraught, with whom we hope to work again soon! We wish them the best at the Grand Opening of their new brewery as well. If you’re interested in trying our the FiveRing Pale Ale, you might want to attend the opening, as if past collaborative efforts are any indication, it may well be gone by the Olympics!
