The annual HopAholics Holiday Party also took place on January 6, following an active brewing day at FanDraught Sports Brewery in Parker. Once again, the event was hosted by Bob Gertie and family, who arranged an awesome buffet for everyone to enjoy. A “white elephant” beer exchange provided some anxious moments, as several great bottles of beer were “stolen” from several crestfallen participants, who then picked another gift.
The Club winter beer competition was also held. While there were not as many entries as last year, the beers that did qualify for the test were all excellent, making for several difficult choices.
First place went to our gracious host, Bob G, for his “Bad Santa” winter ale. The complex recipe resulted in far and away the most ‘first choice’ votes (out of three). His main takeaway for this batch: don’t buy your dried cherries at Sprouts. Way too expensive.
Second place went to Will Trail for a very nice Belgian Imperial Stout, and Tom Cobb grabbed third place with a Gingerbread Brown Ale. All recipes will be include in the Recipe section of he Topic Forum on this website.
Sincere thanks to Bob G and his family for again opening their home to Club members for the holidays!
