HopAholics gathered at the home of Judy and Dave Kuenker in Aurora on Saturday, June 8 for the club’s first combined brew day of the year. It actually felt like summer for a change, which helped. Cody Baylis imported his electric brewing system and produced a 10-gallon batch of Rye Pale Ale, while Judy and Dave cranked out 10 gallons of her award-winning Kölsch. Everyone was treated to a barbeque lunch and access to the Kuenker’s formidable 4-tap kegerator, along with an array of great homebrew contributed by club members. There was no shortage of beer, food or fun.
The brew day took the place of the regular June club meeting and we’re planning on repeating the format for at least July and August. These brew day club meetings provide club members a great opportunity to observe different brewing styles, equipment and processes – in addition to discussing regular club business.
The next brew day meeting will be hosted by Glenn and Veronica Berry at their home in Elizabeth on Saturday, July 20. Will and Erin Trail have offered to host the August event on the 10th of that month. More details on each will follow.
Also, don’t forget the Parker Brewfest on Saturday, August 17. The HopAholics booth will once again feature club members brewing a yet-to-be-determined beer. Send along any suggestions!
